OTTAWA, ON, Sept. 22, 2026 /CNW/ -- BORN Ontario and Prenatal Screening Ontario wish to advise media that Ontario will officially launch new publicly funded fetal blood type screening on September 23, 2026.

WHAT
Launch of Ontario's publicly funded fetal blood type screening, including: Fetal RHD screening for RhD-negative pregnant individuals and Alloimmunized Fetal Blood Group Genotyping to support management of pregnancies with select red blood cell antibodies.

WHY
The new screening tests support a precision medicine approach to prenatal care by ensuring that treatment and monitoring for Rh incompatibility and related conditions are directed only to pregnancies that require them.  By replacing a traditional one-size-fits-all approach with more individualized care, these tests help reduce unnecessary interventions, optimize the use of health care resources, and improve access to leading-edge prenatal care for families across Ontario.
