The new module adds AI document processing, purchase order verification and photo matching, producing a defensible receiving record for freight coming in.

CHICAGO, IL, September 10, 2026 SmartBOL today launched Inbound Shipment Processing, a new module that turns receiving from a filing step into a verified, photo-documented record. It is on display next week at IMTS 2026, McCormick Place, North Building, Level 3, Booth 236356.
SmartBOL’s earlier inbound capability read incoming bills of lading and pulled limited data from them. The new module goes considerably further, adding AI-based document classification and extraction, purchase order verification line by line, item level receiving status, and photo capture matched to the shipment. The result functions as a proof of delivery for inbound freight, the same artifact SmartBOL has long produced for freight going out.
Most receiving docks still run on a clipboard and a fast signature. Shortages, overages and damage go undocumented in the moment, then surface days later as inventory variances, disputed invoices and fulfillment delays, long after the freight, the driver and the evidence are gone.
“You can document a shortage in thirty seconds at the dock, or spend three weeks proving it after the truck is gone. Everything downstream of the receiving dock has a database behind it. The dock itself is still a clipboard and somebody’s memory. We built Inbound Shipment Processing to close that gap, because nobody argues with a photo.”
— Abhay Raut, Founder and Solution Architect, SmartBOL
Inbound paperwork is indexed under the right PO or ASN. Over, short and damaged exceptions follow a standard workflow instead of living in email threads, and received shipment data moves to connected ERP, WMS and TMS platforms in real time, with no rekeying.
The module joins Shipping Document Signing, Driver Check-in and Appointments, Yard View and Truck Board, and Shipment Tracking on a single platform, so inbound and outbound freight share one document repository.
SmartBOL is demonstrating the full platform at IMTS 2026, September 14 to 19. To request a demonstration, visit smartbol.com/request-info.
